Louis-François Dauprat (1781-1868)
20 Duos for Horns in Different Keys, op.14
Probably composed between 1817 and 1824, the duos are reproduced here in facsimile. Dauprat was the most influential teacher and performer in France in the 19th century, and emphasized the unique qualities of each different crook in his compositions. Includes a complete translation of Dauprat’s preface to this work.

Jacques-François Gallay (1795-1864)
Three Grand Duos, op.38
Gallay was a student of Dauprat at the Paris Conservatoire, and succeeded his teacher there in 1842. He is considered to have been the last great natural horn virtuoso in France, and was not at all a fan of the new valved horn. These duos were composed in 1837.

Charles Türrschmidt (1753-1797)
50 Duos, op.3
Türrschmidt was the most famous cor basse of the late 18th century, and was, with Johann Palsa, part of the most famous touring horn duo in Europe at the time. These duos were first published in 1795.
